Ways to prevent workplace accidents

Workers in California and throughout the nation go to their jobs each day with the expectation of a safe working environment. However, this is not the case for every worker. A recent report revealed that workplace accidents have resulted in numerous deaths and injuries.

Many people are killed in workplace accidents each year. The major causes of these deaths were falls or being struck by a moving vehicle or object. From 2015 to 2016, over 600,000 workers were injured on the job. Around 200,000 of the injuries caused employees to miss more than three days of work. Experts are examining the main causes of the accidents in hopes to achieve a safer workplace.

A major category of injuries on the job involve muscle pains and strains. These can often occur because of repetitive movements or awkward work positions. Prevention of muscle strains could be accomplished by evaluating the work processes and making accommodations to alleviate any safety risks. Workers also have a tendency to slip or trip in a variety of working conditions. Improvements in footwear, signage or lighting could potentially reduce the number of incidents.

Falls lead to a large number of job injuries. They often occur when workers use platforms that are not suited for climbing. Training and procedures to educate workers on proper climbing technique can greatly reduce the number of falls.

Workplace accidents can occur on any job. However, employees in California should expect a safe working environment. When accidents do occur, workers may need to seek the advice of an experienced workers' compensation attorney. A knowledgeable lawyer can help clients get the benefits they deserve to cover lost wages, medical costs or rehabilitation expenses.
