Workplace accidents: employee injured by machinery in factory

On behalf of Godwin and Rubin posted in Workplace Accidents on Tuesday, June 13, 2017.

Many California employees and others around the nation work on potentially hazardous jobs. Safety procedures are imperative in manufacturing operations where heavy machinery is utilized. However, even with defined safety guidelines, workplace accidents still can occur. A recent incident at a razor blade factory in another state left an employee seriously injured.

The accident at the Schick razor blade factory involved a female worker in her 50s, according to reports. She was working at her job one morning when her right hand was caught in a machine. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and worked for 17 minutes to free her hand from the machinery. According to the local fire battalion chief, a tourniquet was applied to help slow bleeding.

The woman, a Schick employee for almost 30 years, was transported later to a nearby trauma center for further treatment. No updates on her condition have been provided. However, representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are working with officials from the Schick organization to investigate the accident.

Edgewell, the parent company of Schick, stated that this accident was the first recorded injury on this particular packaging machine. Following the OSHA investigation, the company hopes to ensure the safety of all its employees. Counseling services are available for employees, following the accident.

Workers in California have the right to a safe job environment. When workplace accidents occur, employees may wish to seek the advice of a knowledgeable workers’ compensation attorney. An experienced lawyer will help clients navigate the legal process and work toward getting the compensation to which they are entitled.
